Jerome L. Singer is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Yale University, where he served for many years as Director of the Graduate Program in Clinical Psychology and also as Director of Graduate Studies in Psychology. His research includes the psychology of imagination and daydreaming. Dr. Singer has authored more than 270 technical articles on thought processes, imagery, personality, and psychotherapy as well as on children's play and the effects of television. He is a Past President of the Eastern Psychological Association and of the Divisions of Personality-Social Psychology and of the Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts of American Psychological Association. In addition, Dr. Singer co-directs the Zigler Center’s Electronic Media and Families Unit.
Dr. Singer’s recent books include Imagery in Psychotherapy; Creativity: From Potential to Realization; The House of Make-Believe; Repression and Dissociation; and Imagination and Play in the Electronic Age. Recent publications are Daydreaming, consciousness and self-representations: Empirical approaches to theories of William James and Sigmund Freud; Fostering school achievement and creativity through sociodramatic play in the classroom; and Epilogue: Learning to play and learning through play.
